Top 10 Makeup Favorites | Reviews & Swatches

I’ve spent way more money on makeup recently than I’d like to admit, but that has led me to discover a lot of great products that I am able to wear with pride and confidence.

Suddenly, doing my makeup everyday has turned from a chore to a fun and artistic activity that I enjoy doing day after day. I get to experiment with different products and pallets of color, using my own fresh clean face as a canvas each morning.

Of course, this has only been possible with the use of my wonderful selection of quality makeup products. Otherwise I would be applying my makeup in frustration, continuously trying and failing to get the desired effect, and finding myself disappointed with the final result.

Thankfully though, that is no longer the case. Now it’s so much easier for me to create a look that makes me feel beautiful, I dont have to repeatedly correct any mistakes or mishaps, and I don’t need to worry about mid-day touch-ups.

With the correct tools at my disposal, beauty has become more like a hobby of mine than a task on my list of things to do during my morning routine.

So for the sake of your sanity and for all of those who have to look at you throughout the day (lol, just kidding), I’m going to share my favorite new products that can better your beauty without the added stress and frustration.

NEW MAKEUP FAVORITES

IMG_20170813_214840

1. ECOTOOLS MAKEUP BRUSHES

I was given a set of ecotools makeup brushes for my birthday when I was younger, and I just recently decided to try them out again.

So I ended up buying two brushes from their eye collection, and I have to say that I’m in love. The two I purchased are dual ended, so really its like I have four new brushes instead of only two.

Their brushes are so soft and fluffy, and they pick up product very well. You can easily tell they are quality made, and the hairs don’t fly out or lose their original definitive shape.

2. MILANI MAKE IT LAST SETTING SPRAY

Now I haven’t tried too many setting sprays, but I don’t need to try them all to know that this spray is one of the best for its price.

It comes in a translucent bottle, which helps to determine the amount you have left. It also sprays in an ultra fine mist and dries quickly, without leaving an ultra shiny or wet finish to your face.

Using the elf setting spray, I noticed the product wouldn’t come out evenly from the bottle, leaving white drops on my face where larger amounts of product had joined together. This didnt matter much once it dried, however it was inconvenient. The elf setting spray also left my face looking extremely shiny/sweaty after drying.

Another aspect of the Milani spray that I love, is that it doesn’t drown out the shimmer of my shimmery eyeshadows. I sometimes noticed this happening with other setting sprays. Not to mention it has great lasting power, and does exactly what it’s supposed to by keeping my makeup looking fresh all day long.

3. MAYBELLINE LINE STILETTO LIQUID EYELINER

I have been using liquid formulas for winged eyeliner for years, but I never liked how many of the pointed wands were either to thick or two thin. The other liquid liner I liked, which had the ideally sized pointed wand, was made out of a material that sometimes became flimsy towards the very tip after long term use. This would make it difficult to achieve a sharp point when drawing on winged eyeliner.

The tip of this wand however, is made of a much sturdier material that is able to maintain its shape throughout its lifetime of use. It’s also the ideal size for drawing on both a thick line above the upper lashes and sharp points for the ends of your wings, unlike the ultra thin applicators that take forever just to draw on a thick line.

4. REVLON BROW FANTACY BROW GEL & PENCIL

I purchased this gel and pencil duo in the shade light brown. This is actually the first time I’ve used a pencil for filling in my eyebrows, and I love that it also comes with a gel.

What I didnt like about other brow formulas I’ve tried is that they always appear too dark. As a brunette this may not seem like that big of an issue, but dark bold brows doesn’t fair for anyone unless they have black hair.

This pencil, however, is much more subtle and natural looking than gel formulas that you’d apply with an angled brush. The gel also helps fill in color without leaving smudges of color on the skin around the edges of your brows.

Lastly, I like that it does a firm job of taming my wildly long eyebrow hairs without causing them to look stiff, glued together, or stuck to my skin.

5. MAYBELLINE MASTER CAMOUFLAGING CONCEALER

When I bought this concealer, I was looking for a lighter shade that I could apply under my eyes (bridge of my nose, center of forehead, chin, etc.) to help me achieve more contrast when highlighting and contouring my face.

I ended up purchasing this formula in the shade 20 Light, and I’m pretty pleased with it so far. It doesn’t have the dense coverage that I’ve seen from other concealers, but it also doesn’t feel heavy or cakey.

Its formula is light enough that it allows my skin to breathe and doesn’t crease, but it still provides me with enough of the extra coverage and lightening power you’d expect from other concealers.

6. REVLON ULTRA HD MATTE LIPCOLOR

I am beyond obsessed with this lipcolor formula, and the shade. I purchased the shade HD Forever (645), and I am undoubtedly in love. The wand is much like that of a lip gloss, with a soft applicator tip, and the formula feels creamy and hydrating.

Different from matte lipsticks, this formula doesn’t dry out your lips or make them look cracked or flakey. When it’s first applied it looks shiny and feels like a moisturizing butter, but it dries to a matte finish. Which is perfect because I can’t stand to have a shiny lip, never have.

The color also lasts forever, and I mean forever! After hours of wear, when I can’t even feel any product left on my lips, the color is still matte and bold.

When swatching the lip color on my arm (see swatches in photo found later in post) and removing the product with a makeup remover wipe, I still noticed a trace of color left on the area where the lip color had been.

This can be a bad thing when you’re wanting to wash off your makeup or ready to try a different shade, but that just goes to show it has some incredible lasting power.

7. RIMMEL LONDON LASTING FINISH MAKEUP PRIMER

If you’ve ever used Elf makeup primers, then you’re familiar with the thick, sort of plaster like texture that it has right? Well this primer doesn’t have that kind of texture.

This primer has a consistency similar to that of a lotion, which feels much more comfortable on the skin. Upon doing a side by side comparison between the two on the back of my hand, I found that the primer by Rimmel London also had a luminous finish while the Elf primer simply had a matte finish.

Further in my comparison, I didn’t find much of a difference after applying concealer. But when I went on to apply eyeshadow over the concealer, I noticed the eyeshadow went on more evenly over the side that had been primed with the Rimmel London primer.

When I applied the same eyeshadow with the same brush to the side that was primed with Elf, the shadow seemed to go on more heavily on the areas where I started and changed direction with my brush (the left and right sides of a straight line), while the middle area looked a little lighter.

I also noticed it was easier to rub off the eyeshadow with my finger on the side that had been primed by elf. The colors were dulled down and with harder rubbing the products would cake up into little flakes and brush off.

It took more effort to rub off and dull the colors of the shadow I had applied on the side where I used the Rimmel London primer. It also didnt get flakey when I rubbed with more force like it had on the side used with Elf.

8. MAYBELLINE ROCKET VOLUME EXPRESS MASCARA

Believe me when I say I’m a huge mascara connoisseur. I’ve bought and tested a different kind of mascara each time I went shopping for makeup (3 or 4 times just within the past 2 weeks), and I’ve compared not just those, but all the mascaras I’ve used throughout my lifetime by their formulas, and their lengthening and volumizing capabilities.

Let me tell you that this is my favorite mascara that I’ve used in a very long time, if not ever. When searching for a mascara in the store, the first thing I search for is a package that advertises both length and volume. Next, I look at the wand.

I NEVER purchase a mascara that uses a wand that looks like a pipe cleaner. You know, the wands that are just like the basic disposable ones that you can buy in bulk? I always search for a wand that has plastic or hard rubbery bristles to separate the lashes (see photo).

IMG_20170813_215925

This mascara has both the ideal brush and formula for achieving long, clump-free lashes with bold volume. Other mascaras may have a formula that is too thin in consistency, which will give you longer lashes but cause them to look too thin.

Some formulas, and sometimes the wand, can’t help but cause the mascara to get icky and clumpy. The formula could either be prone to dryness and result in unwanted clumps, or the design of the wand may cause the product to collect into clumps all over the bristles.

The formula of the Rocket Volume mascara however, is perfect. It has a thick consistency that, when combined with its amazing wand, gives your lashes a full and more voluminous look while separating and lengthening each lash. It also stays nice and moist, preventing clump build up.

In the photo above you can also see the wand from the Maybelline Line Stiletto Liner that I mentioned earlier.

9. RIMMEL LONDON SCULPTING PALETTE BY KATE MOSS

This palette has to be one of my top 3 or 4 favorite products in my makeup collection right now. I have the shade 003 Golden Brown, and it has a light shimmery tan/nude highlight illuminer shade, a matte dark brown contour sculpter shade, and a gorgeous light salmon colored blush that has a faint orange shimmer.

These colors are so beautiful together, and they are extremely pigmented. The shimmery highlighter and blush also reflect the light incredibly well and I honestly feel drop dead gorgeous when I wear it. It adds the perfect amount and shades of color, and makes my skin look glowey and flawless. I really don’t even know how I ever lived without this palette, nor will I ever go without using it again.

IMG_20170813_215529

The swatches truly don’t give this palette the justice it deserves, and I seriously order you all to go to your local Wal-Mart makeup department and buy this product. Because if you don’t already have this palette, you’re losing at life and I fucking mean that lol.

You can also check out the swatches of my Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor (Shade 645 HD Forever) and my Maybelline Master Camoflaging Concealer (Shade 20 Light) in the photo above. Keep in mind that the Lipcolor had not yet dried when I took this photo, and the actual finish is not glossy like it appears. The lipcolor dries to a totally matte finish, and also remember that each of the color swatches pictured above may appear different in the photo than they actually appear in real life (thanks to my shitty camera and lack of natural light).

10. FLOWER SHIMMER & SHADE EYESHADOW PALETTE

Holy hell you guys, this eyeshadow is phenomenal. I have the Golden Natural ES3 palette and I literally use almost all of the 10 shades on a daily basis. And by that I mean I like the mix and blend their colors together in a bunch of different ways, and it makes for absolutely stunning eyeshadow looks.

This palette comes with a total of 7 ultra pigmented shimmery shades and 3 ultra pigmented matte shades (that do have a couple of sparkles here and there if you look close enough). They range from almost a white shimmer, to a light yellow gold, to an orange and bronzey gold, to a bronze. These shades are incredibly stunning, and you would be shocked at how bold they are.

The colors just go on so easily and blend like a champ, there’s honestly nothing more that you could ask for in a palette. Its got brilliant sparkle and color, fantastic lasting time, and some of the shades can double as a highlighter or bronzer.

Their lightest matte shade is my #1 favorite transition shade of all time, and I couldn’t NOT use at least 4 colors from this palette every single day if I tried. I’m telling you, this palette is DA BOMB, and much like my Kate Moss Sculpting Palette, you are fucking losing at life if you don’t go to Wal-Mart and buy this product now.

IMG_20170813_220656

Oh! And I almost forgot to mention that it comes with a fucking incredible blending brush that’s valued at $6! It is literally one of the softest brushes that I have and definetally one of my favorites in my brush collection, just as this palette is my #1 favorite shadow palette right now.

Well, we’ve covered A LOT of amazing makeup products today, and I highly recommend each and every one. Plus, all of the products I mentioned are affordable and great for both beginners and those that are more advanced at doing their makeup.

And despite the fact that the prices on these products aren’t down right outrageous and extremely expensive, I think they’re just as good, if not better than similar products you’d find at Sephora. Just try them for yourself if you haven’t already and tell me what you think!

Lastly, if you’d like to share some of your current favorite makeup products, just mention them in the comments! I’m always on the lookout for the next best in beauty products, so I’d love to hear any and all of your suggestions.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed today’s post and I’m looking forward to hearing about your own experiences with the products I mentioned. Thanks so much for reading everyone! Until next time my lovelies. ❤

New Major Makeup Haul & Firey Makeup Of The Day

Hey everybody! I know that It’s been a while since my last post, but I’m so excited to be back today to share my most recent makeup haul and MOTD!

So earlier this week, I felt desperate to find a new eyeshadow pallet to experiment with, as well as additional makeup brushes. That being said, I took a little trip to Target so that I could browse through their selection of makeup products.

After walking in a complete circle around the entire store in search of their beauty section, I finally found what I was looking for. When it was all said and done, I had spent a total of $63 on nothing but makeup and that was well above the amount of money I intended to spend.

But oh well… I’m very happy with the haul I walked away with that day! Now let me show you everything that I got:

ELF EYE BRUSHES

IMG_20170723_093131

So target offered a great deal on elf makeup brushes, where prices ranged from just $1-5 per brush! I bought…

  1. Eye Crease Brush ($1)
  2. Defining Eye Brush ($1)
  3. Concealer Brush ($1)
  4. Basic Shadow Brush ($3)
  5. Angled Eyebrow Brush #203 ($5)

MORE ELF, COVERGIRL, AND MAYBELLINE PRODUCTS

IMG_20170723_093435

I didn’t exactly have any of these items on my “shopping list” before I arrived, but I decided to give these next few products a try once I saw them on the shelf during my search.

  1. Elf Blemish Control Face Primer ($6)
  2. Elf Lip Primer And Plumper Duo ($3)
  3. Elf Makeup Remover Pen (Not Pictured – $3)
  4. Covergirl Lashblast Fusion Mascara ($7.99)
  5. Maybelline Eye Liner Pencil (Not Pictured – $4.99)

NYX AND WET WILD

IMG_20170723_094327

Even though I never imagined I would actually spend over $10 on an eyeshadow pallet (I know, I’m super cheap), I decided to raise the bar this time. After all, that was the whole reason I made the trip to target in the first place!

  1. NYX Ultimate Shadow Pallet USP03 ($17.99)

I also wanted to get a new pressed contouring powder, because every time I try to apply my loose powder it looks too heavy.

2.   Wet n Wild Powder Contouring Pallet 749A ($4.99)

I’ll be writing a detailed review on the NYX Eyeshadow later on this week, so make sure to check it out! Meanwhile, here are some close-ups of the different colors from this amazing pallet!

Triple Threat Makeup Review| 3 Brands—3 Different Products

Hello again my loves. I hope you’re all having a wonderful day, and please feel free to tell me all about how you’ve been lately in the comments! And I promise you don’t have to be shy, I don’t bite very hard lol.

So to start out the blogging week, I’m coming to you all with 3 new makeup reviews on products that I just recently added to my collection.

PRODUCT #1

First I’d like to talk about Maybelline ® New York’s Dream BB Pure 8-IN-1 Beauty Balm.

And here are the 8 benefits that are actually listed on the back of the product:

•    Clears Acne

•    Conceals Imperfections

•    Minimizes Look of Pores

•    Reduces Appearance of Redness

•    Adjusts To Skin Tone

•    Hydrates And Smoothes

•    Mattifies And Clarifies

•    No Oils And Lightweight

So this beauty balm contains 2% Salicylic Acid, which helps shed dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin, fights acne, and reduced redness and inflammation.

It has a smooth and creamy consistency, and does a good job evening out my skin tone. It also gives my face a pleasant Matt finish, and still leaves my skin looking and feeling moisturized.

What I like most about this particular BB cream though, is that it gives close to liquid foundation coverage without the caked up foundation feel. I’ve tried many different BB creams that just felt heavy and pore clogging.

But Dream BB Pure Beauty Balm combines concealing power and hydrating power, all while maintaining a lightweight feel.

PRODUCT #2

Next is the Rimmel London Scandaleyes Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil, and what I love most about this eyeliner is it’s smooth application.

Im also pleased with its pigmentation, which is a very intense black. It’s staying power is pretty impressive as well, and I like that it’s waterproof because I always apply eyeliner to my waterline.

It does tend to smudge a little, leaving a bit of a panda eye. But that could just be because it’s summer and the hot weather is causing it to run, in which case almost any eyeliner would do the same.

But overall, this is a great longwear eyeliner that has bold color intensity and is comfortable and easy to apply.

PRODUCT #3

Last but not least is Lancôme’s Color Design 10 Smooth Hold Shades Eye Shadow Palette.

I really really like the shades in this pallet, and I love that half of them are shimmery. My favorites are the shimmery copper and the dark and light gold colors. This whole pallet is just incredible for my blue eyes, and all the shades really make them pop.

Without an eyeshadow primer though, the colors don’t look as vibrant as I’d like. Using the primer does increase the color’s intensity so they look a lot bolder, but after a few hours they tend to lose their luster a little bit.

The colors also blend very beautifully, and I personally don’t even feel the need to use a transition color when blending. The shimmery colors even have sort of a buttery feel to them, and the other colors don’t feel overly dry or powdery either.
